Challenge of frailty.png

The words frail and frailty have become so commonly used that it is easy to miss there isn’t a common understanding of what it is to be living with frailty; and therein lies the biggest challenge.  Notwithstanding is the fact that despite predictions of an ageing population and workforce, there is a gap in workforce size and development in terms of meeting the care needs of those who are most complex and frail.   There is a good and emerging evidence base for many elements of care however and there are specialists by training and experience who if consulted with, can ensure commissioning intentions and service developments are optimum.  Only then, will we be able to move as quickly as possible and shift from seeing our ageing population as a challenge to something that should be celebrated through achievement of our once in a lifetime opportunity to really get it right.
