This was a regional (North East) event run by AHSN and NG CCG and was focusing on ‘care home staff’ and the care of older people. It was a great opportunity to explore the role of care homes (and their staff) as part of a system that looks after older people. It gave us the opportunity to think ‘system’ with reference to the care home sector – linking system ‘thinking’ to care homes as places, clients, staff, training and education.
The audience was predominantly staff from care homes and others. The event was a round table day with a lot of learning and sharing. I was presenting at the end of the day and was asked to think ‘system’. I linked ‘system’ to the care home sector and used some local intelligence gathered by the care home alliance around workforce and training. We then explored ‘best practice’ and the growing evidence base to good care with alignment to the EHCH framework. We finished off by always remembering these are people’s homes and improving wellbeing was fundamental to any ‘health’ approach/intervention being delivered within the care home sector.
