Workforce competency framework
Health and social care staff from a wide range of professions and organisations are involved in the care of older people with complex needs. In order to ensure seamless, quality care for this population, it is essential that the whole workforce is highly competent and appropriately skilled in the care of older people. Newcastle Gateshead Clinical Commissioning Group commissioned Northumbria University to develop a workforce competency framework for Enhanced Care for Older People with Complex Needs (EnCOP) that is standardised and integrated, specific to the needs of the older population, and covers the whole workforce from those providing essential care to specialist and advanced level practice.
Tyne and Wear Care Alliance
Tyne and Wear Care Alliance have completed work on our behalf to identify a snap shot (in time) of the current workforce in care homes across Newcastle Gateshead. Individual interviews took place with care home managers that have produced a rich array of information that can be used to support the mapping of competencies and also the identification of potential gaps in the skills of our current care home workforce.
